Imaginary World and Its Citizens

Many of the Nelson’s home-made books describe or participate in an imaginary world of their own invention, initially played out on three islands in the brook that ran behind their house. Discover the geography of this imaginary world and meet some of its leading citizens.

The Nelson’s wrote books on many topics, this section of the exhibit introduces some of their favorite and most salient themes.

The Nelson brothers’ produce books in a wide array of very different genres demonstrating their vast curiosities and their sophisticated understanding of the literary marketplace.

This section of the exhibit displays the varied materials the boys used in making their books and describes their developing skills as writers and as artists.
